Vignette - A ghibli-inspired photography game
A downloadable photography game for Windows and macOS
Vignette is a photography game that's heavily inspired by the aesthetics of Studio Ghibli films, aswell as the relaxed feel of games like Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley.
Set in the whimsical world of Baruu you take the role of a young photographer, roaming the lands around the capital. Equiped with nothing but a camera and a couple of lenses, you venture out to capture photos of the world around you, let your creativity guide you and help Baruu's peculiar residents by fulfilling requests.

This demo of Vignette aims to show the basic gameplay concept, aswell as serve as a way of being able to receive feedback - so please share your ideas, thoughts and or complaints :)
Every little bit helps ~
Vignette is also my very first project in Unity, as well as game development in general and serves as a way for me to improve my skills and build a portfolio over the course of my studies.

I love this game, I have taken hundreds of pictures. My takeaway is that the character portraits don't really match with the 3D art, at least right now with the placeouts. You want to take a picture and it's like there's a cardboard cutout there. Im guessing they would be replaced with ghibli like animations, I think 3D models would work best.
I love this demo, I'm a huge fan of these aesthetics and i would love to see a full-fledged game
As a big fan of photography gaming I'd love to see Linux (or Android) included as a development platform.
Relaxing game! I liked the small area that was designed for the demo, the park area was my favorite. It was fun to take pictures and mess around with the game’s photography mechanics. Taking pictures based on specific requests from NPCs was fun. It was nice to get a small sample of the characters and lore.
Some feedback:
Regardless, I had fun! Looking forward to a full release!
thanks so much for playing AND making a video, that means a lot to me!
i really enjoyed watching this playthrough :)
as for some of your questions and concerns:
- yes, the head-bobbing will be toggle-able in the future as part of the options
- the fish-eye lens will be tweaked, but it's in general more for "dumb" pictures rather than serious ones. it's certainly possible to use it for well-made pictures, but the demo-area is probably not built for those.
- yes, i get where you're coming from, i'll try to add some more flair to the street area :)
and some additional info:
settings like depth of field, exposure and so on are implemented, to configure them you pick a setting, hold space and scroll
same goes for the zoom lens, with the second lens equipped you can just scroll to zoom in/out.
i probably have to make that clearer in the future or add some sort of button prompts to the overlay
anyways, again, thanks so much for playing - i hope you have a great day :)
